President Donald Trump sought the recount on Wednesday in Dane and Milwaukee counties after he lost the state by about 20,600 votes to President-elect Joe Biden. That's a margin of about 0.6 percentage points, far too high a margin to change in a recount. For reference, during the 2016 recount, Donald Trump only gained 113 additional votes.
Numerous Republicans, including Robin Vos, have stated that a recount in 2020 is unlikely to change the results. Even Scott Walker, a key Trump ally and vice-chair of his campaign in Wisconsin, said a potential recount is a “high hurdle.”
The goal of this recount is to undermine the will of the people. The election was fair, accurate, and secure, and the results will not change. Here is what we know so far about the recount timeline: WISCONSIN RECOUNT TIMELINE 11/19/2020 The Commission Chair issued the Recount Order. -------- 13 days to complete the recount ------- 12/01/2020 by 12:00 PM Deadline for county clerks to complete the recount, although this is expected to happen sooner than the deadline. Following the recount The Chair of the Elections Commission, Ann Jacobs (D), will send certification of the election to Governor Tony Evers. There are enough workers to staff the recount but if you'd like to sign up as an in-person observer with the League of Women Voters, you may do so here. It’s time to acknowledge Joe Biden as our President-elect and move forward together with new leadership to tackle this pandemic and provide relief to everyday Wisconsinites.
